Mission, Vision, and Values

www.Hope For Youth Alliance.org

Our Mission:

Hope for Youth Alliance exists to help youth heal, find hope and purpose through meaningful mentoring relationships.

Our Vision:

To build mentoring relationships with 300 at-risk youth by 2010.
Our vision is to strengthen caring adults to have meaningful mentoring relationships with children and youth in Northern New Mexico. Hope for Youth Alliance Mentoring is lifestyle based and develops long-lasting, trusting, and positive relationships that give youth hope, and purpose. HYA intervenes in the life of youth to help them make better and wiser decisions academically, emotionally, and spiritually. Our goal is to have 300 at-risk youth in mentor relationships by 2010.

Core Values:

Relational- Children and youth are the product of whom they have been connected to and disconnected from. HYA mentors are committed to develop long- term trusting relationships therefore, creating direct, long-lasting effect and positive influence on the lives of young people. HYA Mentor relationships are meaningful, life-style based, and non-programmatic.

Resilience -

Leadership - Hope for Youth Alliance is committed to replacing the popular myth that “young people are the future” with the truth that they are “the leaders of today who hold the future.” We are committed to indigenous leadership development of our youth, empowering them to excel in their plans and purpose. HYA equips youth to lead and to be a positive influence in their neighborhoods, classrooms, and in their families.

Collaborative- No one organization can reach and meet all the needs of the children, youth, and families, of our communities. Our strategy is to create collaborative efforts with neighboring churches, youth groups, businesses, schools, community agencies, faith based organizations locally, and nationally.

Holistic- HYA Mentors who journey with youth help youth heal, find hope, make better and wiser decisions academically, emotionally, spiritually.

Christ Centered - HYA Mentors are committed to and promote the Lordship of Christ. Our Mentors expose hurting children and youth to consider God’s role and purpose for their life in a non coercive way. Research studies have shown that helping delinquent youth find faith increases purpose and meaning in their lives. The results; reducing recidivism rates from a continued life of crime, and juvenile delinquency.

History

While serving as a Youth Pastor in Espanola, NM for over 10 years I encountered a reality that changed my philosophy and approach in working with youth. I realized that the church/community was losing hundreds of youth to the streets every year because of a void in the quality and quantity of relational and holistic ministry model for youth. So (HYA) Hope for Youth Alliance, Inc, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization was launched in response to the critical needs facing young people and their families in Espanola, NM and Northern New Mexico.

Hope for Youth Alliance Founder and President, Daniel Arellano of HYA is living proof that Mentors in the life of disadvantaged youth make a difference. While growing up he was involved in a lifestyle of drugs, school truancy, and juvenile incarceration. Daniel is grateful to have had adult Mentors during those difficult years, people such as, Luther and Carmen Runge who were volunteers at the New Mexico Boys School during his incarceration; Milo Garcia, a Probation Officer who was instrumental in Daniel’s knowledge of a relationship with God; Jacob McLeroy, Chaplain of The New Mexico Boys School, of Springer New Mexico, and Pastor Mike Suarez of Victory Outreach in San Angelo, Texas were men who took part in Daniel’s discipleship process. Daniel has remained in contact with these men and women whom he attributes to helping him make better and wiser decisions, his resiliency from a life of juvenile delinquency, drugs, and further incarceration.
