Young men need direction that comes from a man…maybe you are the one.

This is our second postcard and will be used to recruit men to join our mentoring alliance. Please feel free to down load it and distribute it for Hope for Youth Alliance. We are always in need of men who will mentor young men. 9o% of young men who come to us asking for mentors are absent from their fathers.

Fatherless young boys need a male-model they can learn from, maybe you can be the one.

It’s a hotbed for college hoop, but could New Mexico also be ready for the “major leagues” of women’s basketball?
The New Mexico Sports Authority thinks so, and the WNBA is listening.

Quote of the Day-

“The price is totally dependent on the world market for crude oil, and the demand for crude oil is insatiable,” Domenici said.
He said Americans can help stabilize gas prices in the longer term by using less gas and pushing federal policymakers to open domestic oil reserves— such as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska and shale oil deposits in Colorado— to drilling.
“If we really believe we have a crisis, then we ought to produce more homegrown product,” Domenici said. “We are leaving a lot of oil and gas unattended in the United States.”

I read this Dear Abby last night and it caught my attention. It was a little food for thought. I will take this one mans advise; When hunting with youngsters, be a hunter and not a killer. Read it here.

+DEAR ABBY: I am writing in response to the letter from “Concerned Grandpa,” regarding his son-in-law taking his 4-year-old grandson hunting.

+DEAR ABBY: I was a preschool teacher for several years, and the children who were the biggest bullies and least socialized were always — and I mean ALWAYS — the ones graphically exposed to the killing of animals. These children were aged 3 to 5, the same age as the grandson in South Carolina. The gentle, studious, most popular children never spoke of hunting, but the bullies would talk at length about killing, guns and blood. It affected their emotional stability and ideas about death. Please urge Grandpa’s son-in-law to wait until his son is old enough to understand death before allowing him to participate in it. — Loves Children and Hunting in California

IMG_1134.JPGIMG_1146.JPGIMG_1181.JPGuriah's first hunt

DEAR ABBY: I started hunting with my dad and grandpa at the age of 4. It forged a bond between us that lasted until their deaths. Learning to be a hunter is also learning responsibility — specifically gun safety, game laws and respect for the animals and nature.

Even though you referred to hunting as “killing for sport,” please remember: License fees help to pay for game habitat and management. Habitat and proper management assure a healthier game population and the survival of many species through conservation efforts. Also, children schooled in the safe handling of firearms at an early age aren’t as likely to be involved in gun violence. — Caring Hunter, Walters, Okla.

Why Wait? Because your worth it!

Next to freshman biology class, there is nothing more universal on college campuses than the “hookup scene.” It is simply expected that students from state schools to the Ivy League will experiment with premarital sex. In the words of one Harvard student recently quoted in the New York Times: “For me, being a strong woman means not being ashamed that I like to have sex.”

Well, surprisingly there are growing numbers of students who have a much different definition of what it means to be a strong woman (or man). It means not being ashamed to say that they would like to have sex, but choose not to.

A relatively new student group at Harvard called True Love Revolution has urged college freshmen to resist the hookup culture by passing out flyers that read: “Why wait? Because you’re worth it.”

Texaco LogoChevron Hallmark - Human Energy™

This advice comes from a gentlemen whose been in the petroleum buisnes for 31 years.
+Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the
ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations
have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground
the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so
buying in the afternoon or in the evening….your gallon is not
exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and
the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other
petroleum products plays an important role.
A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the
service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

+When you’re filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a
fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three
(3)stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on
low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are
pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping
on the fast rate, some other liquid that goes to your tank becomes
vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground
storage tank so you’re getting less worth for your money.

+One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF
FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in
your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates
faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal
floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and
the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service
stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is te mperature
compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount.

+Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage
tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up–most likely the gasoline
is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick
up some f the dirt that normally settles on the bottom. Hope this will
help you get the most value for your money.

I hope this is helpful to you all.

+Here are few more Gas saving tips.

+My father used to play with my brother and me in the yard. Mother would come out and say, “You’re tearing up the grass.” “We’re not raising grass,” Dad would reply. “We’re raising boys.”

+You don’t raise heroes, you raise sons. And if you treat them like sons, they’ll turn out to be heroes, even if it’s just in your own eyes.

In my quest for a quote that I have been in search of since I didn’t write it down, I found this one.
as they say, “a short pencil is longer than a long memory.” I should of heeded.

I still need the one that I heard from a DELL associate the other night. If you are reading this please drop me a comment.

For my faithful spurs lovers in Texas will see you in the 3rd round, if you make that far. S, put your cowboy hats and boots away because we are on  top. This was a great performance going into playoffs!

Kobe Bryant

A sad Report:

The Lakers rolled in the second half to whip the Spurs 106-85 Sunday in Los Angeles in a game with major playoff seeding implications for both teams. The Lakers are now positioned to be the top seed in the Western Conference.

The Spurs, who have gone through numerous offensive dry spells lately, scored 14 points in the third quarter and 18 in the fourth quarter.

Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 20 points. Lamar Odom had 17 points and 14 rebounds in a game that was over early in the fourth quarter.

Even the Spurs’ most productive players struggled. Tony Parker had 20 points and five assists, but two points and no assists the second half. Tim Duncan had 16 points and 12 rebounds, but shot just 6 of 19 from the field.

There’ no denying who is # 1 now!
